Muratie, one of South Africa's oldest wineries. Located in the well-known and very beautiful Stellenbosch.

All wines are named after one of the previous owners.

2012 - 31⁄2 Stars - John Platter 2016.

Vinification: The grapes are handpicked from three different vineyard locations, grows at a higher altitude than many other grapes.

The plants are over 40 years old, which makes the fruit very concentrated and of high quality. Aged 12 months in French oak barrels, of which 33% in new oak barrels.


Description: A full-bodied wine with lots of fruit, dark cherries and plums mingle with spicy notes of licorice and chocolate. Good barrel character and rounded tannins. Balanced acidity and a lovely long spicy and herbal finish termination.

Recommendations: Served at about 18 degrees. To be drunk now or within 5 years, that enjoyed as it is or accompanied by a rich meat stew, cold cut and aged cheeses.
